"Follow Your Heart Red Dress Gala"

The "Follow Your Heart" Red Dress Gala was held last evening downtown at the TAPPS building, where the fashionistas of Columbia came out in their finest red garments to help kick off the first official party on the road towards Columbia Style Week.
Local celebrities took to the stage to discuss their personal stories of triumph over heart disease, helping to bring awareness to the masses that heart disease does not discriminate. And women are most at risk as heart disease continues to be their number one killer... even over breast cancer.
Nathalie Gregg participated in a fireside chat with Dr. Norma Khoury. Local talent kept everyone entertained during the silent auction which gave 100% of the proceeds towards the American Heart Association with goodies to delight every guest. Models from FFS Talent and CSW walked the runway in all shades of red, strutting the catwalk in formal fashions. Even Mrs South Carolina 2012 Danyele Gardner came to lend her support.
It was an amazing night, I'm just bummed I didn't get to wear my red dress. I can't shoot in a gown and Louboutins! LOL!!!

Before I share a post about our Christmas Holiday... I wanted to share some pictures I took of Carrie today. She is my little Hollywood Diva, posing for the camera like a pro. I think I even saw her crack a smile or two? :)

She has made herself quite comfortable in her new home. Trying to make friends, and learning the ropes of her new family. A ball of energy all day long, I had forgot how crazy puppies can be, but I love her dearly.

Sunday Sunset Yoga Session in Myrtle Beach...

A few weeks back I wrote of an amazing woman I met while photographing her yoga studio for an up coming WINK publication. She and I became instant friends with a 1 hour photo shoot turning into a 3 hour gab session about all things amazing!

Her images from this shoot came out great, and she came back to me so overly pleased with the results that she asked me to join her down at Myrtle Beach this evening for a sunset photo shoot for her website and PR items. Our last shoot was so much fun I couldn't hardly say no... so my hubby and I packed up the car (new puppy and all) and headed off to the coast.

It was a chilly 51* with the sea winds making it feel much colder. As we all stood barefoot in an ice cold ocean I thought to myself "suck it up honey, this is the life of a photographer". I had a fantastic time!!! My hubby even shot off a few images and captured some really great stuff. It was nice to work with him again.

I love everything about this shoot, and I couldn't wait to post a few of my favorites. Enjoy...

Looks like I've been "Carried" away!

Pets... they are such a HUGE part of our lives. A part of the family, if you will. Our family has 2 dogs. My Tiffany is my baby. She is 13 and blind, but she is the healthiest, most active and loving animal you will ever want to meet. She just knows love, no hate, no anger, no pain... those things have NEVER been a part of her life and it shows in her temperament and disposition. She will do anything to please you and never ever has let me down. She licks my tears, rolls on the floor when I laugh out loud, sits at my feet when I have food, lays by my side when I sleep at night. She has been such a staple in my life that I'm at a loss when I think of the day that will come where she is no longer there wagging her tail and giving me morning kisses. It makes my heart physically ache when I think about it...

I don't want to be out searching for a pet when she passes. That's not the way to go looking for a new family member. I don't want to be full of grief trying to turn some new puppy into my old Tiffany. I want a new dog now, a few years before I would expect Tiffany to leave me. And I want Tiffany and her to know one another. I want the new little one to learn from the best of the best... so with that thought in mind I started getting the itch to go puppy shopping. I mean what is more cute than a fluffy new puppy with a little red bow on sitting under the tree on Christmas morning? So I trolled the internet looking at all things cute, trying to decide exactly what breed I wanted. Is it not funny how I ended up with the exact dog I said I didn't want? Be careful what you wish for, the packaging might be slightly different. LOL!!!

Welcome the newest member of the Berard Family... Miss Carrie Bradshaw!!! She is a hybrid dog Pom/Shitz mix and oh-so-cute!!! She is as smart as a whip, cute as a button, and has the attitude of a true diva! There are so many things about her that are just like my Tiffany that I truly believe that God didn't bring me what I wanted breed wise, but instead he brought me what he knew I would need the most... another loving dog just like my Tiffany is.

There will NEVER be another Tiffany Louise Berard... she came into my life when I had absolutely nothing. We loved each other through sleepless nights, lonely holidays, tear filled break ups, scary thunder storms, sun filled car rides with the top down, nail painting day at the spa, 3 apartments/ 3 boyfriends/ and 2 job changes in 6 years, and a new marriage, 2 litters of puppies, a move to Europe, a move to Texas, a move to South Carolina, and all those other crazy memories I have of her and I together. And when the day comes when God decides he needs her up in doggie heaven I know that I gave her a great life, as she did for me. And I know that she will be with me always, and that she will be able to see me again one day with her new beautiful eyes. And I pray that this new puppy Carrie will be able to love me through the pain of losing one of the best things that ever happened to me...

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas...

Unpacking boxes... this has to be one of the single worst things in the world that comes along with moving. And when half of what you own came on a boat from Europe, and the other half of what you own came from a storage unit in Texas which has not been viewed in almost 3 years, it's difficult to remember not only what all you have... but which box its packed in and why can't you seem to find it?

After setting up, painting, picking out, coordinating, putting together, moving around, hanging up, and anything else one could possibly have to do to make ones house "livable" again. That's what I have spent the better half of 3 months doing now. So the thought of digging up all those twinkling lights and glass balls made me ill. I know... I'm in a beautiful new home that would be amazing to decorate with holly and lights, and animated holiday creatures of the forest. But I just have not been able to make myself get off the couch and get it all done. We don't have children, so when it's just the two of us it makes it so hard to get into the spirit of the holidays. Although, I have managed to keep the hubby out of the loop in the gift department. He doesn't know which gift under the tree is his and which is mine. Too funny!

So, since I have decided to keep things rather small this year, I did do some things which I have not in the past but would like to make a "Berard" Christmas tradition... like our gingerbread house and our stockings for everyone in our family, including the dogs. :)

My Nana used to DO IT UP during the holidays. She was the best at making the entire house look magical. I never knew all the hard work that went into making all that magic happen back then... I wish I would have told her more often how amazing she was and how the holidays just are not the same without her special touches. I miss my Nana & Grandpa so very much during this time of year...

A Lake Carolina Christmas...

This is our first year in our new home, and thus our first Christmas. While I spent a good portion of my weekend digging for, testing out, and assembling our holiday decor, I couldn't help but to think about where I was this time last year, and how extremely different the two have been.

Snow... as far as the eye could see there was snow. And it seemed to last forever that season. Keeping me cooped up in the house, venturing outside just long enough to grab some firewood and head back indoors scoring a juvenile attempt at building a fire. Instead, I proceeded to smoke out the entire first two floors and setting off every smoke detector in the place. Towards the end of the season I finally became an expect at building and sustaining those fires. But I'm in no hurry to practice those skills again anytime soon.

I missed the states. With homes full of lights and trees in the window, each decorated in its own magical way. But then I was treated to my first Christkindlesmarkt and I was hooked. The most memorable moment of that entire experience was the smells in the air. One moment from sweet candied treats. The next, to hot bratwurst and sauerkraut. And the gluhwein!!! That tasty little cup of warmth that keeps you in the spirit of the season. A tradition everyone looks forward too...

This year we ventured into our own little Christkindlesmarkt right in our new community. Our Town Center hosted a "Tour of Homes" where the streets were shut down to make way for horse drawn carriage rides through the neighborhood, caroling tractor trailer pulls, a live band playing holiday favorites, an open fire pit with a nearby table full of all the necessary ingredients needed to build your own s'more, and all the local merchants keeping their doors open extra late just to welcome everyone to the party.

I took the camera with me just for fun, hoping to capture some shots to add to our keepsake books. It was a magical evening!!!

Pink Lotus Yoga Center... LOVE IT!!!!

My job is one of new people and places... constantly changing environments and personalities. There are the ones who try your nerves, the ones that challenge your patience, and then there are the ones that move you beyond words. I'm lucky because I seem to have this great ability to attract the last.

Today was one such day. I've been really sick, along with some unnecessary drama in my life. So my creative juice tank has been running below the "happy" level. I needed a good kick in the pants to get things rolling again and today was that day!

Nicole Zimmer. Artist and Owner at Pink Lotus Yoga Studio in Lexington, SC. Her studio is located in the Old Mill off Main, and if there wasn't already another established photographer in the building I would be signing my life away to get in there. Its just "THAT" amazing!!! Real, dark, old hardwood floors, exposed red brick tainted with turquoise splashes of old paint. Open ceilings showing the duct work and pipes along with an amazing view of the waterway just behind the building. Truly an artists dream location. Her studio is warm and inviting and smells ultra yummy! The perfect place to find your center and get back to being your very best. You just MUST go check this place out asap.

We started out in her studio as she warmed up before we took off out by the creek where an old tree and loads of running water made for some pretty amazing natural beauty. She posed, I shot... and what we captured was so peaceful and serene. It was exactly what I needed to get my head back in the game. Isn't it amazing how the Universe will bring around exactly what you need in exactly the perfect time.

Here's to new friendships and bright futures. Here's to successful women who are survivors in every way imaginable. Here's to nature and all her glory. And here's to receiving exactly what was intended all along.

A little Sun-dried Vibes please...

Tonight I headed down to the Village at Sandhill to catch Sun-dried Vibes show at the Wing Stop. I have been hearing about these guys for some time now. About their cool, laid back style. Their easy, friendly attitude. And I must say that they did not disappoint!

We were all sitting around chatting while waiting for the Clemson/ Carolina game (Go Gamecocks!) which ran a little longer than expected. But when they finally made it to the stage it was well worth the wait.

Playing original songs from their new CD, along with some other artists thrown in... I have to tell you that they sound amazing. I really love true artists. The kind who passionately love what they do. Who drive hours upon hours to make a gig. Who will play 3 shows in 3 different cities in a 12 hour period. Who do it to see the smiles on the faces of the fans who come back to see them again-and again-and again. They are SO friendly that I have to let them know that the next time ya'll find yourselves in the area and need a place to crash, give us a call. I could see an evening full of laughter and great conversations!

Thanks for the invite guys, and for putting on a great show. Can't wait to see you again soon...

Happy Thanksgiving 2011...

Its been quite the year... With so much to be thankful for as well. We are both healthy and trying to get better at staying that way. Eric is enjoying his new position at Shaw & I'm enjoying the discoveries of a new arena of the photography world at WINK. Tiffany has had no issues since her eyes were taken and is the healthiest 13 year old dog ever! Our new home is beautiful and I thank God daily for allowing me to live here. Our marriage is strong, and we have finally found our "comfort zones" with each other. Now it's getting fun! :)

With all our blessings it wasn't difficult to say that dinner prayer, thanking the man upstairs for blessing us with our lives together. For the adventures and the tears, the highs and the lows. For the opportunities and the learning experiences... we are truly grateful.

It was only Eric and I and the two dogs for dinner this year. It's tough when you're the new folks in town with no relatives that live close by. Next year will be a different story for sure!
I cooked everything from scratch and think I did pretty damn good! I had all the traditional Thanksgiving meal items, right down to the pumpkin pie. I was even able to serve it all on my new china. Thank you bb!!!

I miss my Nana & Grandpa at this time of the year. There are amazing recipes that I was supposed to get from her before she passed, I didn't. Now, all I can do is start my own family traditions in my food preparations. I hope she can see me from where she is now. I hope she can see that I was watching very intently all along. And I learned from the best. I hope I make her proud. Love you Nana!

Columbia Style Week Auditions Continue...

Auditions continue for Columbia Style Week as models from all across the east and south east gathered at Carolina Talent, one of the premier talent agencies in the area.

Established in the 1960's, Carolina Talent is known for their crop of diverse models and actors, and they never disappoint!

The CSW team arrived early, and were treated to a lovely finger food buffet and cold drinks. Then, personalized gift bags, thanking us for bringing CSW to Carolina Talent. Our hosts were amazing! Classy all the way. We were all then escorted downstairs to the audition floor, where over 300 models awaited to walk for not only CSW, but other talent scouts. It was a busy day for all involved...

Thank you to all the amazing men, women, and child models who walked in CSW Model Audition # 4, hosted by the amazing Carolina Talent. Next audition will be held December 4th, 2011 in Orangeburg, South Carolina. Location TBA.

WINK Magazine CURVY GIRL ISSUE... & I got the cover!

It's just been one of those days. The weather was amazing, my clothing looked and felt great, my Sida was able to stretch her legs on the 77 and still no tickets, I went to look at a possible studio space in an amazing building at an incredible rent, and the WINK Magazine CURVY GIRL Issue came out today! Oh, and did I mention that my images are splashed through out the entire publication-including the cover???!!!

Yes folks, it's just been one of those days... one of those AMAZING days! And I thank you "big man" upstairs for making it all come together so perfectly, and in exactly the perfect time.

TAPPS Arts Center, Columbia...

Main Street, downtown Columbia. A mecca for all things hip and chic in the city. Many building renovation projects have been taken on by local and national developers, and with the aid of Mayor Steve Benjamin, a new and flourishing downtown has began to take shape.

One space in particular is the TAPPS Arts Center. A former department store space that has been renovated and transformed into 30 artists studios, a performance/reception space, and an exhibit space.

Brenda Schwartz, executive director of TAPPS Arts Center says, "In just over a year, TAPPS has become a hub for artists and creative people in the midlands."

It was a pleasure to witness the ribbon cutting ceremony. Thank you for the invite TAPPS! I will be back soon, I have some interest in one of those artists studios!!!

Carpe Noctem "Freak Show"...

‎The 3rd Annual Carpe Noctem "Freak Show" was held tonight at 701, downtown Columbia... and it was freakalicious!!! (I know that's not even a word, but I'm claiming it as one just for this event) And WINK was there covering it all!

Guests entered via the Red Carpet where they were greeted with visual sensory overload. Warewolves chained atop barrels with women on stilts roaming the floors. A bearded lady swung from the ceiling on a wooden swing. In the corner, a simple ring of the bell brings alive a masked fortune teller who gently takes your hand and places in it a piece of folded paper reading your fortune. It was very mysterious, very stimulating... almost in a "Eyes Wide Shut" kind of way.

The UNBOUND Dancers performed a killer (pun intended) rendition of Micheal Jackson's "Thirller". Walking through the crowds like zombies and startling those watching the stage, unsuspecting of what was slinking up behind them. They were spot on.

Little bit of info for you here... I was technically trained, and had the first 2 years of my optional competitive floor routines choreographed by Mr. Cortland Jones. Mr. Jones also happens to be the zombie just off to Micheal's left side in the Thriller video.

I was really impressed with all the amazing costumes. People really put a lot of time and thought into some of their attire. The atmosphere was relaxing, with a restless undertone. I guess there's just something about being able to dress and act like another person for a night with no fear of judgement that leaves us all feeling a little experimental.

DJ Lola kept the party jumping alongside Alex Smith, Alternacirque , and The Partytime Gurls. It was awesome!!!

Every Girl's Crazy For A Sharp Dressed Man...

Style, fashion, textures, patterns... Isn't clothing fun?!? And there's nothing better than seeing a man looking like a man. Well dressed, smelling oh-so-good, and walking with a swagger of confidence! I can't help it, but this has to be my favorite time of year simply because of men in finely tailored suits. Bold colored ties, wool sweaters under the perfect pin striped pantsuit.

Today I had the pleasure of photographing for Columbia's premier men's and ladies clothier, Granger Owings. Upon walking into this store I was instantly transformed and I cannot wait to bring my husband here for some new winter suits, some leather winter gloves, a scarf or two, and maybe a new belt as well? This store could easily become habit forming, but what a fabulous habit to have indeed.

Next time you're downtown on Main street, or in need of that perfect tie, pair of shoes, or suit tailored to perfection, be sure to stop on by. The new Versona Store at the Village...

Yesterday I was at the press opening of a new store at the Village at Sandhill here in Columbia, and I must tell the truth, I had to continually remind myself that I was there to work... NOT to shop!

This place, this amazingly beautiful place, will be seeing my smiling face a lot in the future. This is my new "Go-To" shop for all things sparkly and pretty. Purses, jewelry, hats, glasses, shoes, and some fabulous garments are what you'll find here. Fabulous marble floors, crystal chandeliers, big changing rooms, a helpful staff, and row after row of baubles and bows.

So the next time you are at a complete and total loss for an accessory, head on down to Versona in the Village. If you can't find it here... you're too picky!!! :)

Its Winks first "Curvy Girl" Edition!

Today's modern woman is not a size 2, nor is she a size 4. In fact, the average size woman in the US is a size 12. So then, why is every image in every magazine seems to be of a woman who looks like she hasn't even graduated high school yet? Hasn't had her heart broken yet. Hasn't lived life enough to have gained an ounce of weight yet. Designers sample sizes are always a 0-2-4... that's it. If you don't fit into any of those 3 sizes don't bother to audition.

But real woman have curves, and according to the amazing ladies I had the pleasure of working with today, they have plenty of them and they're not afraid to show them off. And I LOVED it!!! Women embracing their womanhood, their sexuality, their bodies. Showing off in clinging dresses, sportswear, and evening wear. They were funny, life loving women who were just happy being on the set. Having the chance to do what they love, meet other like minded women, and to celebrate being... well, themselves.

I'm not allowed to show the images from our shoot because they are heading to print. One of them, rumor has it, might even be the cover! But, I'm sneaking one in to show off, because I think every woman out there could stand to learn a thing or two from the ladies I spent my afternoon with.

CSW Model Auditions are under way...

Auditions for 2012 Columbia Style Week has begun with an abundance of beautiful models making there way from Atlanta, Florida, and North Carolina. Resumes and comp card in hand, they come to any one of the numerous audition sites with aspirations to walk for one of the amazing designers who are showing their lines at what is sure to be the "Big Event" of the spring.

This past weekend the third crew of models were at FFS in Columbia, walking for a panel of 5 who chose the first sets on looks that coordinated with the designers visions for their garments. I was there to photograph their wardrobe cards for backstage, and their walking the cat walk.

It was a great afternoon. So much potential that I'm glad I'm not a designer having to fight over just the right girl/guy. Good luck to everyone who is coming out to audition. We hope to see you at another up coming event very soon!

Styx Concert Columbia, SC~

Columbia South Carolina... I have not seen a very large list of entertainers that are rushing to come here and put on a show? And I think its a shame. We have a HUGE artistic community who spend their weekends at the neighborhood stage performances and help to promote our local talent. Big names hit the stage over in the arena, while the smaller concerts find their way to places like our State Fair.

Last night that's where I found myself, and I had a GREAT time! This press pass thing is like the "Golden Ticket"! HUGE line out at security, no problem, just walk right in. Crowd rushes the stage at the beginning of the concert, flash your press pass and its "Right this way ma'am, I will bring you to "THE PIT". Lovingly referred to as the "photographers pit." We are only allowed 15 minutes each in the pit, but I can get capture a hell of a lot in 15 minutes! Yes, I was officially working, but how could you ever call this work?

Thank you to Holly and Greg from Blythewood for joining us! It was great to see you both again. I did manage to grab that cotton candy I had my eye on, but no corn dog. :(

Carolina Couture...

Established, and flourishing...

I'm speaking of Carolina Couture. A beautiful, very couture boutique nestled on the corner of a tree lined street in the Village at Sandhill, 29229. I love this place! And have dubbed it my new p/t home. I couldn't find a thing in this store that didn't catch my eye. From the shoes (of course), to the gowns, the jewelry, purses, clutches, and furs. Oh, those furs!!! It was literally eye candy for the soul!

The girls looked amazing in their designer gowns, just in time for winter balls and prom orders. Would love to see some of their incredible wedding gowns on some of the FFS ladies! (Hint-Hint).

Constructed from two 20' X 8' shipping containers, they are now a fully functioning mobile mini-store that will visit 4 cities over the next four weeks.

Envisioned as a way to deliver the Urban Outfitters experience to cities where they have yet to open a full-fledged Urban Outfitters store, its the perfect way to test the market in an unknown demographic area. Next on the list, the cities of Athens, GA, Tallahassee, Fl and Knoxville, TN.

The UO mobile store is stocked with a little bit of everything shoppers would typically find in an Urban Outfitters store. Including woman's and men's apparel, graphic tees, accessories, electronics, and home items.

The guest may take their time and stroll through the store, picking out items of interest, talking with an UO specialist, all while getting to know an amazing brand with a fabulously comfy style. When you're ready, there are dressing rooms so you can get a glimpse of what the future holds upon the purchase of one or more of these casual and functional yet stylish garments, then make your selection by writing the number on the garments ticket and bring your ticket to the stock container. Mobile Point-of-Sale technology will replace traditional cash registers, allowing their staff to complete sales transactions in a flash.

During this first tour, UO has partners with Dockers (R) to create a mobile art gallery. Artists were called upon to reinterpret khaki in their own way using Dockers 'Alpha' Khaki material. Artists from the Southeast are showcased.

Wink Magazine... my new passion. I have spent the last week pinning and drawing and organizing my peg board, being sure to get each piece right as I try to design the first of what I hope to be many more styled shoots. I'm nervous, but I'm super thrilled all at the same time. I really enjoy my new employers and, thus far, everyone I have had the opportunity to work with. Its a huge high to have stimulating conversations... imaginative & artistic conversations. I forgot how much I've missed this.

Today I went on my first "Official" assignment and I loved every minute of it, even though the temps outside went from a predicted 68 to a whopping 82. And me, in jeans instead of a dress.

The future of DB Images...

This is where it all began. The "birth" of DB images Photography. A dream that became more than I could have ever imagined. Walking, or should I say running, directly into the wedding industry with the highest of hopes and the best of clients. It was an amazing, rewarding, sometimes frustrating, but never ending learning experience, and I loved every single minute of it all. As time went on I was blessed with the opportunity to branch out into other areas of the photography field but in turn eventually found myself in a position of comfort but not of growth. I made my clients happy which, in turn, made me happy and I loved watching my brides on their wedding day both nerves and smiles, taking this next step in their lifes journeys. And I was right there to capture it all, but my creative side never developed its wings. Don't get me wrong... I was growing by leaps and bounds with every new wedding I shot, but I was limited by the desires and visions of my client. And I dreamed of something so much more.

How do you rein in creativity? How do you harness all those artistic juices into one arena which will allow you to express, truly express, who you really are and what you really feel? I explored the options, and found myself right back where it all began for me... fashion, commercial, and editorial imagery and I just couldn't shake it. 2 plus years in Europe staring at fashion magazines. Weekends in Paris walking the streets lined with the most amazing of boutiques. And people who pushed the envelopes of creativity. How could I ever go back to anything else after all this?

So... with that said I am making my official announcement that the DB Images that once was will soon be no more. The wedding and family portrait side of my company is taking its final bow and we are heading into what I believe could be the experience of a lifetime.

Today I took a position with WINK Magazine. A woman's fashion publication here in Columbia which has brought me on board as their newest Associate Photographer. My duties will extend beyond the creative boundaries of just a simple point and shoot session. I will be working solo and in groups choreographing the dance between make up, wardrobe, modeling talents and photo/video. I will be working with an amazing crew of equally passionate and expressive men & women to create a publication which is sure to set Columbia's fashion industry on its ear. I have also been given the distinct honor of being asked to head the photography team for Columbia's first ever Fashion Week to be held next June 2012.

With this new adventure comes the re-design of my current website. I will be focusing on my love of all things fashion and glamour with a splash of my own personality and a twist on the basic editorial designed shoot. I will have the opportunity to work with some amazing artists on some of the most challenging yet rewarding photo shoots I've ever done to date.

This is my true passion, and I am so very blessed to have the chance to live me dreams one step at a time. A HUGE Thank You to Mrs. Alicia Zeigler and to WINK Fashion Magazine for the enormous honor of shooting for you and your publication. Together, I see some amazing things coming over the horizon!!!

Bahamas Vacation 2011...

Days turn into weeks, then months... and before you know it the summer is gone. Along with the blue skies, and warm weather. Pretty sundresses, cute kitten heels, and hats.
With all the packing, moving, unpacking, painting, shopping, and family responsibilities going on, its been easy to forget just how precious those summer adventures can be. So the hubby and I decided that it was time to get a little attitude adjustment. And what better place to do that than on a cruise ship bound for the Bahamas?!?!?

6 Days/ 5 nights of heaven on board the Carnival Fun Ship, eating everything in site, drinking like a fish, and dancing into the wee hours of the morning until our socks burned (right along with our bodies).

It felt great to have my camera(s) back in my hands again capturing Gods beauty. The Bahama Islands are stunning. And what girl in her right mind would pass up the chance to play dress up and party every night for a week??? Surely, not me!!!

Here are a few images from our amazing trip. We met two fun loving couples that just so happen to live minutes from us. And I spent the better half of two evenings with a group of fabulous woman who rescued me from the clutches of that dang casino. They called me SJP all week, included me in on all their activities, and promised to keep in touch including a standing invite to their next "Girls Only" weekend. God help me!!!

Our New Home in South Carolina~

Life in the military is never easy. In fact, its been a whole lot harder than I ever imagined it would be. Our PCS to Germany was supposed to be filled with new adventures, and in many ways it surely was, just not all good ones. Touring Europe was amazing no doubt, but the harsh weather, lifestyle changes, driving conditions, language barriers all took their toll on both Eric and myself. My not being able to work was also a very difficult adjustment.

All in all I suppose there are things that I will surely miss in time. I already miss the wonderful friends I made while I was there. And I miss the chances to travel to different countries every weekend, but I'm an American baby and damn proud of it! Oh how I missed this wonderful country and all its benefits!!!

Our travels back to the states proved just as trying as our travels away from it. Crazy flights, unbearable living quarters in temp housing on Shaw AFB, broken a/c units, busted water pipes that flooded our luggage, complete chaos when it came time to receive our household goods (which we still don't have all of), and incompetent people to deal with when it came time to close on our new home. But we are here... in our new home (FINALLY!) and busy un-packing a million boxes full of items I haven't seen in over two years. Oh how I missed 110v appliances and my summer clothes!

Eric and I had been saving for the last year in preparation for this move. We wanted to treat ourselves and buy all new furniture! It was a whirlwind shopping spree that lasted the entire fourth of July weekend, and ended with some amazing bargain buys! I have this itch to do it up... from the paint to the light fixtures. The rugs to the drapes. Bedding, towels, and shelf items, I was in hog heaven for sure!!! And although its not even close to being finished, I have to say that I'm thrilled with how its turning out so far. Every weekend we find ourselves doing little projects around the house. The latest was our glass tile back splash in the kitchen that came our beautiful! And I hate to brag, but I did it all by myself! :)

Along the way I've been taking a few pictures so I wanted to share what we have thus far. I love it, and I can't wait to have our house warming party in a few months.

Boudoir and empowering women...

Until today you may have come to my blog & website to view my work, read my posts, or simply get to know me a little better? And if you read a posting a few months back about a beautiful woman who hired me for a boudoir photo shoot as a surprise for her husband, today that post has been erased, and it makes me very sad to even have to write that fact. Let me explain just why...

When I decided to offer boudoir it came after a lot of thoughts, opinions and decision making. Not because of how I felt about it, but because of what others say about it. I've heard statements like "Its too personal." Or, " Im not comfortable taking those types of images." but what are "those types"? Nudes? Risqué? Pornographic? And those exact statements I suppose is what pushed me even further into the need to offer this style portraits? There is a difference between "Artistic Nudes" and "Pornographic" style photography.
Now let's not get all emotional about this statement because to many people, pornography can also be looked at in an artistic manner. But that is not exactly the look I am going for when I speak with a woman, or even a couple, in regards to the session they are about to purchase.
Boudoir, to me, is about empowerment. It's about stepping outside your comfort zone and embarking upon a journey of the soul. It's about forgetting those photoshop images we all admire in the magazines and no longer comparing ourselves with those women. Or men for that matter. Those images are not real. They have been manipulated to within a fraction of who that person really is. They are there to sell a product, to evoke an emotion, stir a fantasy. But it's not reality.
Now, with that said... I am not claiming that they are not beautiful. Or that I don't, or have not, done the same thing to my own images if that's what the client requests. But it's not where my heart is. Where my heart is, is to give back to women. To get them out of their box, if only for an afternoon. To allow them to feel beautiful no matter what their body type. What their size might be, hair color might be, breast size/waist size might be. And to aid them in seeing themselves in a whole new light. To appreciate those things that they seem to gravitate towards... Like their stretch marks. Or their butt dimples. And I say this because those are the things that are beautiful! Those stretch marks came from a new life that you and the man you love created. Those dimples show that you've lived. Those breast, that might not be as perky as they once were, fed another human being. So be proud!
In fact... Stand on a mountain top and shout it out to the world!!!! You are beautiful, you are amazing, and you are fearless! Embrace you... ALL of you. Put it on canvas or in a book. And believe me when I tell you just how beautiful you really are.

The client that inspired me to write this is blessed. I mean physically blessed. Photographing here was pure joy and extremely easy. Her body, her face, her emotions were very easy to capture in pictures. And there have been nothing but positive and, at times, envious feedback on them. And at first, she was proud of them too. But somewhere, over these last few months, those feelings of pride and empowerment have been over shadowed by questioning, skepticism, and ultimately fear of posting them online. So I respected her wishes and removed them. All of them. From any public viewing site they had been posted on. And I think it's a shame. Not because they are my images, and personally I am extremely proud of them. But because I feel that somewhere along the line she slipped back into believing what society would have her believe... To be less than confident about herself, and her body.

I never would publish an image without the clients permission, which I was given initially. On that same note, I will never keep those images up if, for whatever reason, a client changes their mind about that decision in the future. Even if legally I have the right to keep them there. It just wouldn't be the right thing to do. And that's not what I am all about.

So if you are reading this my dear client, I want you to know that yes I was hurt. And maybe a little angry at your decision to have them removed... But not for the reasons you may think. I'm hurt because it's just another woman who has conformed to society and it's warped ways. It's another woman who has, for whatever reason, questioned herself and her body. It's another woman who has listened to the opinions of others over her heart, and her soul. And in some small way you just gave up some of your power....

Boudoir is about empowerment. It's about loving ones self. It's what I strive so desperately to give to each and every woman who is on the fence about this style of imagery. And a little part of me just died today knowing that society has taken that away from someone yet again. The decision to do a boudoir shoot is a private one, and there are many reasons why a woman chooses to do it. Just don't allow your decisions to be over shadowed by others labels. Stand up! Be strong! Love yourself! And let's make a change in what society believes is right or wrong. It's your body, your decisions, your right.

Lake Carolina... Our new home~

It's seems like months have past since we first heard of our re-location to Shaw AFB, South Carolina. Time has past by so quickly it's all such a blur now. From the movers to the flight over to our temp housing here on base, to say it's been an adventure has been an understatement. But that which does not kill us surely makes us stronger, and being a military wife is not for the faint at heart. I am blessed that I can draw strength from an amazing husband and wonderful friends. In the end... It has all worked out just as God intended. And it has worked out better than I could have wanted.

My husbands new position is going to be a wonderful challenge and a great move for his career. The only drawback I see could be his frequent TDY assignments. But he will grow so much and have the opportunity to prove his strengths and nurture others in the process. Such a difference from his last duty station. But with his TDY's comes free time for me which means plenty of time to start decorating! Yes, we did our research and decided to take the chance and purchase instead of rent. The market currently is in favor of the buyer, and after researching everything from neighborhoods to school zones, taxes to commute times, our final choice ironically ended up being one of the first homes we looked at. And boy did we steal it!

It's a brand new home in the pre-planned community of Lake Carolina, and it's amazing! With over $33K in custom upgrades and a price reduction of over $65K after the original designers had to pull out of the deal, the builder decided that taking a hit deemed better than sitting on it for yet another month. Upgraded real wood floors, upgraded espresso cabinets and black granite throughout. Wainscoting and heavy molding, trey ceilings, jacuzzi tub, fireplace, formal dining, butlers pantry, and theater room over the garage. This home has everything we were in search of and more. So, so much potential! Now, I spend my days browsing Home Depot and watching HGTV. I can't wait to move in. Such an exciting time.

In the middle of all the excitement we have found ourselves planning a trip back to the west coast to see family. An impromptu family reunion per say. We both need the break and the idea of seeing family and friends is also very exciting.

So there it is... The latest adventures of our life. Never a dull moment, and always filled with so much love. I terribly miss my friends I left behind in Germany, but look forward to making some new ones here in the Carolinas.

Announcing Steel Magnolia Photography!!!

The excitement is growing for me everyday as I prepare to head back to the states after 2 long years here in Europe. Along with this excitement of the move comes the excitement of going back to work, which I've missed SO MUCH!

I've been working for days now on the restructuring of our Boudoir Photography website... and I'm happy to say that it is almost finished. STEEL MAGNOLIA PHOTOGRAPHY is our new Boudoir site that is an extension of DB Images in Texas. I'm betting on a whole slew of southern bells who are ready and waiting to get in front of the lens and become engulfed in the wonders of feeling over the top sexy~

There are still a few sections that I'm busy working on, along with the sites blog... but all in all its looking pretty nice. Soft pastel colors, sexy music, and a whole lot of information awaits, so when you have a moment go check it out!!! Be sure to leave some comment love~

After many days of frustration and anticipation... I have the final word.

I'M COMING HOME TO THE STATES!!!!!!

Yes folks, out tour in Europe has come to an end and we are coming home, a year early! I am thrilled!!! My hubby talked to all the right people, made all the right moves, took all the right people to lunch??? I'm actually not sure what he did, or how he pulled it off, but he did it. And I am a very happy camper right now!

I know I'm going to catch a lot of grief from those who just don't understand how or why I would want to leave the chance to live in Europe? Well, simply put, I'm an American Baby! I can't help it folks. As screwed up a things may be for us home in the states... there is still nothing like living in the United States. I miss so much about it. And besides, if there is anything that I managed to not check off my bucket list while here, nothing is ever stopping me from returning for a short, enjoyable vacation. :) I just don't have to live here full time.

I think Angelina and Brad have it right. You spend a few months in Europe every year and then come back to the U.S.. You get the good months no matter where you are. But then again, I think they have a few more million than I do! Oh how I envy you A & B!

So... where exactly has Uncle Sam decided on placing us this time??? Well, I'm also happy to say that it is in beautiful South Carolina!!! Where the hills are green, the temps. reasonable, the bugs... well, not so much! But the chance to begin my business again... to pick up where we left off. No, I take that back... to extend the success we had in Texas. Now that is a wonderful feeling!!!

Here we come South Carolina. Are you ready for us??? This city girl who has now toured the world. With her Christian Louboutins and her new Benz... oh my is this going to be one more crazy ride!

Hold on folks... its going to to get silly here in about 6 months!!! (And I can't wait!)

Adam Lambert Concert. Stuttgart, Germany~

Well, it's 11am here in Germany, and after a very eventful evening I am crawling my way out of bed and back to the land of reality.
Last night I traveled 3 hours to arrive with my best girl Vivian in Stuttgart. We donned our new dresses and glitz for what we anticipated as an exciting event. Adam did not disappoint, the venue and the rude people on the other hand, left a lot to be desired....
Maybe it's just that I'm too old for a general admission type concert? Maybe that my former-former is a very well know artist himself and I'm not used to being on anything but the backside of the curtains? Either way, fighting the entire evening with a very ripe and rude German woman was not my idea of a good time.
I had purchased my M&G tickets with the idea that there was a separate area for the VIP ticket holders to stand, only to find that the line separating them from us was nothing more than a plastic emergency tape unrolled between cones???
It took only 10 minutes after the GA crowd was let through the doors and that tape was broken through in zero time flat. That left those of us with front row tickets, scrambling and fighting our way to keep those front row spots. After being elbowed in the ribs for a good 40 minutes, and also dealing with her ever increasing body odor, I just gave up and gave her what she wanted. It was such a shame!

But Adam.... Ah Adam. He made it all worthwhile. With his amazing voice, fun costumes, energetic dancers and those damn tight leather pants! Yummy!!!!
The meet and greet was enjoyable as well. I would have liked a few more moments with him just to ask one or two questions at least... Making it a little more personal for both parties involved. But it was nice none the less to have met him and to have our picture taken. I'm looking forward to seeing it!!!

All in all it was a lot of fun. Great girls night out of town! I even met two fabulous ladies from Germany who were dressed like little rock stars themselves.... Oh to be that thin again! Girls.... You were smokin hot! I loved it!

For those who have the chance to take advantage of the meet and greet, it's worth it. Just be aware that 1) he does sign autographs (we were told he wouldn't) so be prepared with one of his disks, etc.... 2) that your VIP ticket doesn't guarantee that your going to be front and center.... Be ready to shove your way in there to keep your spot.

Hope those who are looking forward to your concert dates with Adam have as much fun as we did. He is amazing onstage, and a pleasure to meet backstage!

A European Vacation~

There are many things I will remember fondly when I remember our time here in Europe... our travels will surely be one of them~

This summer, my husband surprised me with an amazing 7 night Western Mediterranean cruise aboard the Navigator of the Sea, Royal Caribbean. It was the vacation of a lifetime, balcony suite and all!!! Ports of call included, Genoa, Italy. Barcelona, Spain. French Riviera/ Monaco, France, Rome, Italy. Sardinia, Italy.

All I will just keep repeating is how amazing this trip was... so instead, I'll just post some images.

LVMPD Metro K-9 Trials....

A dog is mans best friend... so the story goes. Pet or working dog... they are amazing, loving creatures. They will stand by your side when no one else will. They will lick the tears, grow excited over the laughter, curl up by your side to sleep.
I have two dogs, and I couldnt imagine my life without them. My female Tiffany is my baby, and my everything. She is older now, going on 12 yrs. and blind. But she still fetches a ball, follows me everywhere and adores me... even on those not so adorable days. I love her so very much!

Recently on my trip back to the states, I went back to Vegas to see very close friends. My two girlfriends and I have been through it all, and we still love and respect one another. We spent days just talking about the past, our futures, and life in general. I had a blast. During my visit I found myself down at the Orleans Hotel for the 2010 LVMPD Metro K-9 Trials, where another dear friend was competing. It was to be a surprise, we have not seen one another in over 5 years now.

He is one of Las Vegas' finest Metro K-9 officers. We met one night when he pulled me over for a ticket for driving with no headlights... the rest, as they say, is history. Its been 8 years now, and our friendship has grown into a deep respect of each others lives and the paths we have chosen. We will forever remain dear friends, and I thank my husband for allowing this to be.

It was a wonderful afternoon at the K-9 Trials. Where dogs and their handlers from all over the west coast competed for "top dog" of the event. I have never seen a K-9 work, even if it was on decoys. They are incredible!

Here's to you my friend, for all you and your dogs do to keep Las Vegas safe. You are a blessing. Please, always be safe out there. Vegas is a better place because of all you do.

A trip back home....

No matter what the situation, good or bad, going home can be amazing.
Our trip back to the states was a last minute one, one that we didn't quite know what to expect. My husbands father has fallen ill and it has been touch and go for some time now. While in the field, Eric received a phone call that changed everything... so off the California we went. Not knowing what awaited us.
When we arrived, it was wonderful! Every brother and sister, 9 in all, where there from across the globe. They were there to celebrate the life of a man they all loved and adored. It was good times indeed. The food, conversation, sleep overs, late night talks. It was just how a family should be, and I had a great time!
Now, Erics father seems to be doing better. One never knows what God has in store for us and our lives. The direction it can turn can change in the blink of an eye, and I have come to realize this fact the older and wiser I become. Life is precious, and should not be taken for granted... ever.

During our trip we took some time to go visit my parents in Lancaster as well. It was so great to see them after 2 long years! They looked great, and we enjoyed our short visit. The irony of it all... its October, so everyone everywhere is celebrating Octoberfest. Yes... that was surely what I came all the way to the states to do. LOL! But now I can say that I celebrated it on both sides of the world in one month.

I was going through some old blog posts tonight, feeling a little nostalgic, and I came across one that I just know God put before me to make me smile (and maybe make some others out there think just a little?) Its a post from back 2009, just prior to when my husband was preparing to leave for Europe, and I wasn't feeling too happy about it. A dear friend made a statement to me that made me really think. Think about life, and just how blessed I am to have such an amazing one indeed! I felt the need to re-post this because... well, it made me smile. And tonight, with all the drama, and all the crap... I needed to smile. In fact, it made me laugh. Laugh out load at how wonderful I really have it, and how sad it is that others make their life so pathetic and complicated needlessly. Below is the original post, and once again I thank you Rosemary for making me think, and to smile! Damn... its good to be me!

My life... my fabulous, crazy, impulsive, obsessive, blessed, lovely life.

I was speaking with a friend tonight who said something so profound to me, she said "I read your blog every day and at times I think to myself... I wish I had her life." I found this extremely flattering, since I have always looked at my life as exciting, but nothing that I would go as far as say others wanted to emulate. Ironically this statement comes at a time when I am not feeling particularly special by no means. I have a husband who leaves me until Jan. 2010 in just 72 hours, a business to take care of, two dogs to find good homes for, a house to sell, a car to sell, and a whole lot of issues to handle all one my own.
I guess god knows when we need that little pick me up!

So I went through some old pictures of times in my life. Those wonderful times that I have indeed been so very blessed to have experienced. Such as...

Champion Gymnast who toured with Kurt Thomas (What a great time in my life!)
ESPN Ms. Fitness SW Champion (Ah, to look that fit again!)
Dated country singer Lee Greenwood for 3 years (What the heck is up with that hair???)
Raced Lamborghini's down the coast of So. California with Mario Andretti (That was crazy!)
Was a Las Vegas Showgirl for 2 years (Those headpieces are so heavy!)
Learned to hunt as good as the boys (4 point on the first day of season)
Heli skied in British Columbia (What a rush!)
Performed at Dodger Stadium and was on tv for the first time with Steve Garvey! (Dad was so jealous!)
Became a surgical nurse at 38 and graduated with honors... I like this job much better!
Met the man of my dreams on Match.com and now they use us as a success story! (Featured on CNN and the front page of USA Today as well!)

So... there it is. Me, just me. Crazy me. I was a lot of things before I became a photographer... and since then as well. I think all those amazing experiences have given me the chance to develop my style and attitude where my images are concerned. I thank God for all he has given me!

In Recognition of your Services~

Being a military wife sure has it challenges, but it has it rewards as well. I have been involved with my husbands unit for about a year now, and within this time I have been asked to serve as our HHD FRG Leader (Family Readiness Group). With this comes more than the responsibility of making sure that information that is carried down the line is given to our families in regards to events, jobs, blood drives, etc...
It also holds the very deep responsibility of being there if one of our soldiers down range should be injured, or killed in the line of duty. It is our responsibility to be there when the families are notified. To be there to comfort, console, and hold their hands while they put their lives back together. It is a position I take very seriously, as it is a very serious position to be in.

The other night, along with numerous other men and women of our unit, I was recognized for my service to our families. I am honored. I wouldn't want to be anywhere else than right here, serving alongside my husband in my own little way.

Thank you Mrs. Katie P., Cpt. Dan D, and Col. Jordan for this award. And, for the awards to our other recipients. We are humbled to be a part of our glorious 212th CSH~

A Touch of Immortality~

A few weeks have past without a post, this I must apologize for. You see, being a military spouse, FRG Leader, business owner, all can become a little overwhelming at times. The obligations, the meetings, the run here and run there... whew! But in the middle of all this craziness there lies peace. Peace in the arms of the one I love. Peace in my military friends and those who I have had the chance to meet over these last 5 years. I love these people with all my heart! I am honored to be asked to take images of newborns, maternity, baptisms, and all other exciting events that happen in peoples lives. And, although I have decided to take a break these last few months to travel and spend time enjoying Europe, I miss my camera and the magic it creates!

Life happens in a blink of an eye... that's what Ive always been told. And its so true. So every moment that I spend with these amazing people I cherish.

Recently, another military spouse phoned me to capture images for a publicity shoot and book deal for her first novel. I was so excited! This is something new for me. And although I have worked with models, musicians, etc... I can now add novelist to my resume.

Her book was just released, and I was just given my own personal copy... and I cant wait to read it! Thank you to Mrs. Vivian Ditzler, for your belief and trust in such a big event in your life. It was a pleasure!!! Here's to you girl!!!

A family... full circle~

How time passes...
Before I even realized it, a year has almost past and I find myself looking towards the final stretch of our time here in Europe. Much has happened since I arrived, the best of which have been the friends I have made along the way and the memories I have helped create.
That has to be the largest thing I miss about my business as a whole, the memories that are made again and again after I first meet a couple. It starts with an engagement shoot, that turns into a wedding celebration, that develops into a maternity portrait, that begins a new life session. Its full circle, and its an amazing thing to be a part of!

When I first arrived in Germany I met a woman who has become a role model to me. She is a friend, a mentor, a mother, a wife. When we met, she was 5 months pregnant with her new son and begging me for maternity portraits. Just hours after the end of this session her water broke, and baby Anton arrived! It was a very exciting day that I still remember so vividly. Weeks later came Antons first photo shoot... and he was a trouper! With his huge, beautiful eyes. Thick head of hair and a fabulous attitude for such a little man.

Just weeks ago Kelly and 'Landos time here in Germany came to an end. And, although they are back in the states, I think about this amazing family everyday~ They touched me, and I will be forever amazed by the story that I tell again and again of how we became friends.

I miss you all so very much. And even though we spoke and saw one another so sporadically, I miss knowing that you were right there if I had a question or concern or just needed a friend.
I cant wait to come back to Texas and Im thrilled to know you are in SA!!! By the time I return I suspect I will be capturing another baby bump? :)

Before they left we all took one last stroll through the park out by the base and captured a few more memories. I cant believe how big little Anton is already. Tell him to slow down just a little, I want more memories to keep~

Afternoon Tea Party~

As the sun sets on another beautiful day here in Germany... four children gather in the wheat fields nearby to celebrate. They celebrate nothing imparticular, they just celebrate life... and the joys of being a child~

I watch them all with great wonderment. I wonder if they even realize how blessed they are? To be sitting in the heart of a wheat field in Germany, surrounded by the love and watchful eye of their parents. To be soaking in the warm rays of the sun, while sitting in pretty dresses, having a simple tea party with their favorite dolls. And it was wonderful!!!

Thank you Wiehi family for blessing me this afternoon with your warmth. For giving me the chance to share in such a moment and experience such joy. I really needed it more than you will ever know. Sometimes, you see, being an adult can make you forget. Forget just how beautiful it can be to sit in a pretty dress, in the middle of a field, in Europe, just having a simple cup of tea.

A single rose can be my garden... a single friend, my world~

A single leaf blows off the branch of a nearby tree as the skies made it known that the rain which has plagued us over the last few days is not yet over. A gentle breeze comes from around the corner as a childs laughter is carried with it, and then another. Soon, a parents gentle touch is felt by one as she helps dress her daughters in rubber rain boots and matching umbrellas. The skies are holding off for now, as if to allow us a moment of togetherness... this family of God awaits the click of my camera shutter and I am again so honored to name these people friends.
She was the first woman to meet and greet me when I first arrived here to Germany. A plate full of chocolates and a warm hug, followed by evenings of great wine and homemade meals. This family I love so very much... we have already made so many wonderful memories together. And today, another opportunity to gather and capture family portraits that are long over due.
Thank you again for these moments in time. Thank you again for allowing me the honor. And thank you most of all for being that friend who has become my world.
I love you all so very much...

Military life, filled with PCS, Deployments, TDY's. But it is also filled with friendships that are quick to develop and not quick to dissolve. Your life in this life can be such a whirlwind of excitement, filled with a little anxiety, and degrees of separation. Right now in my personal life, I am thinking of a friend of mine back in Texas... who is only hours away from seeing her husband for the first time in 21 months. Safe travels Anthony, and a glorious reunion to Shelia and family! Yet here in Germany, I am saying goodbye to two families I have come to know and care for in just the short 7 months I have been here.
A few days ago I photographed family portraits for a woman who trusted me with her maternity and newborn pictures just a few short months ago. Now, this afternoon, under beautiful blue skies, I captured images of another family bound for the States in just a few short weeks. I have photographed her son after his graduation, and now the reunion of her and her husband. Celebrating his recent return safe from down range. Welcome Back Sir!
So, as I say goodbye, I thank you for bringing me into your lives... if only for this short time. And I hope that the images that I captured for you will aid in fond memories of your time here in Germany. You will be missed...

Simply Love~

Simply love... that's just how I describe what I feel when I capture a moment between two people. Whether it's the glance, the kiss, the placing of the hands one in another, that emotion that is captured when the heart is pure and no one is looking.
Couples that I photograph have all had this emotion, this fiery, consuming emotion that is not measured simply by a word, but by an action.
I am blessed in so many ways...
Capturing this feeling for the world to see is just one of them.

The Dinosaur Park~

The Dinosaur Park in Kaiserslautern, Germany...
A place where children young and old can meet and spend a quiet afternoon. And today, under cloud filled skies I met with a devoted client of mine and her close friend and families. It was a day of final image captures as one family moves back to the states and leaved those close behind.
I know this move all too well. And although I have no children, I can easily imagine how difficult this could be with them in tow.
It was a pleasure to shoot for you once again my friend, and thank you for introducing me to another great client. Awe... you cant leave me now!!!

Paris Rock the Dress~

I have spent hours, talking my brides into taking those one of a kind images so politely named... "Rock the Dress". I have painted my brides, poured motor oil over them, had them run through the mud. But to date, I have yet to be able to recreate that amazing image of Ophelia. I know-I know... she is dead. But the haunting image of her floating in the pond, arms stretched towards her side and this peaceful expression on her face. I always longed to do this shot but never had the chance.
Now, it was my turn... and I became so nervous!
Little did I ever imagine that it would be me actually floating in the water one day. I must go into sales in the after life because I know now first hand that its not an easy sell. It surely was not an easy sell to get me to walk into that green moss filled pond in front of the museum atop the hill just overlooking the Eiffel Tower. It was cold, green, and yes... wet. That dress was heavy, and the green moss stuck to it everywhere... but the images captured by Mr. Clayton Austin are unimaginable!!!!! They are just what I had always dreamed of... and the fact that its me lying there makes it even more fabulous!
Thank you Clayton for talking me into that one of a kind shoot! I was so scared, but you made it all SO worth my while! And, I love that Eric also got in that pond with me. Not many grooms would drench a designer suit to get "the shot".

After a week of rain, it was sketchy to say the least if my booked shoot was going to happen this afternoon. But just in time, just as God would have it... the skies cleared and the sun popped through the clouds as the Parsons family met me at the Japanese gardens, eager to capture some memories of their little ones.
The first thing that anyone would notice are the eyes of their children... bright steel blue and beautiful!!! Curly hair and ivory skin... a photographers dream. A little fussy and eager to roam, it was good I had my running shoes on today as we all made our way through the gardens.
It feels great to get back to work. After a long, agonizing winter, I feel right at home again. Making new friends and making new memories. I love meeting my new clients, and I love it when they are ready to rock the session!
Thank you Cassie and Joe for a great afternoon. You have a beautiful family!
And Cassie... when you are ready for those boudoir... please let me know~

A Childs Baptism~

The skies cleared, as the children walked to the alter. The sun shined through the stained glass windows of the church as the congregation stood in prayer. 4 beautiful children came for Baptism this morning, and I was blessed to be a part of this wonderful moment.
Golden light fell on the Baptismal as the water flowed from a silver pitcher... it was breathtaking!
Wide eyes watched as their father, the Chaplain, blessed them one by one. Each having their own, priceless reaction to the event. Grandma, Grandpa and mother watched on as the water washed their foreheads and cleansed their soles.
I thank you once again Yates family, for bringing Eric and I into your lives and your blessings. I am forever grateful for moments such as these, and friends such as the two of you.
This is the day the Lord made... Rejoice!

My friend, the Author...

I have always said that in this military life you meet the greatest people... Ms. Vivian is certainly no exception. A wonderful mother of two beautiful daughters, an amazingly strong military wife, and now... a soon to be published author~
Her new book, due for release in late 2010, is a young love romance novel sure to be a hit with many young ladies across the globe. I am going to make it a point to read it cover to cover, not just because I know it will be wonderful, but because I personally know this woman and we have become fast friends!
She is stunning! And I am having a hard time picking my favorite image from our shoot today. So, I'm going to leave that stuff up to her. Until then, here are a few of my favorites of the day. Go ahead... be jealous, yes she is that gorgeous!

Baby Jackson, Take 2~

A few weeks back I spent the afternoon with baby Jackson and family, capturing wonderful images of this precious newborn baby boy. It was a tiring day for the little man... so we called it quits and I followed up with another session this afternoon. Today, he was a new man!
All quiet on the home front was the theme, as we snapped away as he looked at me as if to say... "I'm ready for you this time ma'am, let's do this!"
So I thank you once again Weeks family, for allowing me into your home and into your lives. It was a pleasure, as always... I had a wonderful time. I hope Mr. Jackson enjoyed it too~

A new baby girl~

Fresh off the plane from our trip back stateside, and I am up and running, camera in hand... being sure not to miss a chance at a new friends final shot at maternity pictures. After 2 boys, I guess the third one is a charm, the daughter she was praying for and one last set of baby bump pictures. I again was honored to even be asked!

She was beautiful! Ms. Renee walked into the room prepared as none other I have seen to date. With all I asked for her to bring and then some... that some being some pretty little lingerie numbers and a set of black heels. Now how many pregnant woman do you know with this kind of confidence! She just rocked our session~

Now, as I go through her images, I am reminded once again why I love this job of mine so very much. Why I will run on no sleep after an 8 hour plane ride to capture someones hopes and dreams. Why I just couldn't say no to this woman, with only days until delivery.

It was an amazing afternoon Renee. I'm so glad that your daughter waited for me to return home. I am thrilled beyond measure that you were such a pleasure to work with, and I cant wait to meet your little girl!

Meet Baby Anton~

I can always say that any day I am busy taking pictures it is a good day. Today was one of those very good days!
9am on the nose, I was out the door and onto a small village just west of me where my friends Kelly and Orlando live. It was exciting, I was going to meet their new son Anton... who I have known from inside the belly from my first meeting with Kelly a few months back. You remember, the wonderful woman who yelled "Is that my photographer?" from across the hospital halls. From her amazing maternity shoot just 2 weeks ago. From the fact that her water broke just hours after we finished... Yes, I have some stories from this bunch already!
Its only been 2 short weeks, but the perfect time to meet this new little one and capture his first images. As I entered their home, the first thing I noticed was how amazing Kelly looked. I mean she was bright eyed, excited, and all ready to go... surely not what one would expect with a newborn in the house, with feedings and changings and sleepless nights. Not this woman... she simply looked wonderful. Next came daddy... looking just as excited, just as eager and surely not tired. I wondered just how this couple does it? Then, I met Anton... with his big beautiful eyes, with full head of hair, little chubby fingers and toes. Already moving like a little munchkin, lifting his head and very alert as he looked me and my camera over as to say, "I know you Ms. Lady". I was instantly smitten.
This had to be the most fun I have had in some time... as we all laughed at Antons little antics. At the way he watches you as you walk around the room. At the cute smile and puckered little mouth that mommy and daddy brag on claiming "that's just how he looked right when he arrived into this world." Right down to the cutest thing I have ever seen... to get little Anton to calm down, daddy reads to him... from what else? An automotive magazine!!! That little man quieted down and turned his head to his father and listened ever so intently. I see many nights in the garage fixing up classics and shining up chrome.
So I thank you both once again, for an amazingly fun experience. I love this little man... makes me want one of my own, if you can promise me my experience would be just as perfect as yours has been? :)
He is beautiful~

Its like Mothers Day here in Germany~

2 weeks ago, a mother to be walked through my front door and into our studio for what were some memorable maternity images... today she is the proud mother of her newborn son, born just 48 hours after our shoot! It was an amazing time that I wont soon forget.
This afternoon, another glowing mother to be walked into my life and allowed me to be a part of this very special moment. Lisa was radiant, as she walked up the driveway and right into my heart. With her quiet, but confident way, she let me know right up front that she was a little nervous... having her picture taken at such an intimate life experience. I was quick to assure her that she was in good hands, and that this moment is something that wont ever come again. So, relax, have fun, and most of all, believe that in this very moment you have never been more beautiful!!!
It took all of 12 frames ( I kid you not ) for this woman to move like a seasoned pro. There was no more fear, as she stepped into my lights and simply filled the room with love. This particular shoot was also fun because her husband Darrell was right there with a loving smile, a cute little wink every now and again, and always encouraging words for the mother of their first child (who they have decided to wait to find out the sex until the day of!!! ) How exciting!
Thank you for your trust. I know its not easy to get in front of the lens with a complete stranger and feel like home... but you did it. And, did it wonderfully! It was a pleasure~
Here is my amazing couple and ??? Cant wait to hear the big news and to take those newborn images as well!~

Maternal Beauty~

Its funny, this military life... I was told when I first married into it that friendships would blossom out of nowhere and will last a lifetime. I had my first taste of this when I moved from Vegas to San Antonio and met two women that I am still to this day very close to. Even with me a half a world apart, we still email and phone each other on a weekly basis.
When I arrived here in Germany, my husband was excited to introduce me to all the people that had been told of my pending arrival. I can remember the day I met Kelly...
I was walking down the hall of the hospital and from 5 doors away I hear this voice yell out "Is that my photographer?" I laughed, she laughed, we became instant friends. I have since been invited to their annual Halloween party, and Thanksgiving dinner. We have talked about personal things that I have only shared with her. And I have been anxiously awaiting the day when I am honored beyond measure to photograph her baby bump~
Today, under a snowy sky, we spent an afternoon making memories that I hope she can cherish a lifetime. The arrival of her first born, a son, and I was there to photograph this beautiful woman.
I thank you Kelly for your fast friendship. For helping a scared military wife feel at home again. I thank you for the gatherings at your home and the personal talks you allowed me to trust you with. Most of all, I thank you for your trust... your trust in my work, my artistry and my guidance to capture beautiful photographs of you this afternoon.
You are amazingly calm, contagiously happy, and I admire you more than words can say.
I hope you find these images as amazing as I have... you are so beautiful~

It is always an honor to be recognized for ones accomplishments. To be recognized by some of the leaders in the wedding industry makes me swoon!

Last year DB Images Photography was awarded one of the Top Vendor awards for the San Antonio area in photography by WeddingWire.com and Martha Stewart Weddings. We were amazed to be noticed among tens of other photographers in the area. This year we have the pleasure to announce that once again we are being recognized for our unique style and flair... the kicker, we don't even live in the U.S. anymore! The Knot Magazine, one of the leaders in the whats-what, and who's-who in the wedding industry, selected DB Images among the top 10 photographers in the San Antonio area. We cant wait to display our plaque beside an arsenal of achievements in just a few short years.

Andrew... A Portrait Session

One of the first people to contact me for pictures upon my arrival in Germany was Kate... Mrs. Canfield as she is known on base. She is a beautiful woman with the talent of great conversation which makes one extremely comfortable right away, which was a great thing, because I was nervous! Its always nerve wracking to me when I have to meet a woman who just knows her stuff. And this woman knows her stuff! With over 26 year involvement with the military and a hubby who is not only serving in Afghanistan, but did I mention that he is the Col.??? Ouch!
Her and her son showed up, uniform sparkling new, everything in place and rip roaring ready to go... even though she cheated and hid out in the car from the frigid cold weather (I couldnt blame her) as Andrew and myself braved the cold and snapped away. He was a pro! And I felt it was going to be a great shoot.
While he and I both ran from one location to another I couldn't help but notice one very obvious thing... this was one proud mama!!! Hat in hand, ready to straighten anything that wasn't correct on his uniform, this woman was all smiles as she watched her son, now a man, take his first official images in his new uniform. It was such a pleasure to witness!

I thank you Kate for the opportunity to photograph you very handsome son, and I thank you for your kindness and friendship. It was an amazing meeting and oh-so-fun shoot!

The Christmas Ball/ 212th CSH Germany

My hubby and I were guests at this years Christmas Ball, held for the 212th CSH here at Ramstien, Germany this last December. It was a wonderful evening of food, fun, and friends.
Our night was highlighted by a double win... Eric-and his wins! Two beautiful gift baskets during the evenings drawings!!!
Today we finally received our disk of images from the night, looking oh so fabulous in his uniform~ Yummy! And I in my Katherine Heigl Oscars gown, we had a wonderful time!

Paris... a black and white chronicle~

Paris in winter... fall or spring for that matter, I'll take each and every season in this city~
It was an extremely romantic destination, as Eric and I traveled 3 hours into France to celebrate the ringing in of 2010, destined to be a fabulous year!!!
It was beautifully gray, with clouds of white and buildings of faint camel color lining the streets of the city of lights. With its Les Champs Elysee, Moulin Rouge, Eiffel Tower, and Louve, it was an amazingly beautiful site. Despite the frigid weather, we managed to stroll the streets until our feet could take no more and the warmth of a cafe' called our names. Escargot, creme brulee', lamb filets, and more and more creme brulee'... that was my diet for 3 delicious days and nights. It was not un-usual for us to take an evening trek to the corner market to find ourselves overwhelmed with wine and cheese choices that would make anyone cry with delight.
Our hotel room, though slightly cramped, was worth the find as we found ourselves within a short walking distance to the Eiffel Tower where we did spend the eve of the New Year amongst hundreds of others crazy, cold people. Unfortunately, we never did check the reports, assuming that this year it would be one of magnificent fire works... only to see a small light show as those fire works were down on the Elysee. So sad indeed!
So, here are just a few images of the markets in front of our hotel and the beautiful Eiffel Tower... all in rose black and white. My personal favorite style...

Merry Early Christmas~

There are times in my life when I have to take a deep breath and stop... stop for just a moment to remember how lucky I am. How lucky I am to have a beautiful, warm home... in the heart of a quiet little town in Germany! To have two crazy, lovable dogs who miss me, even when I only go two feet outside to our mailbox. To have friends who still write, email and phone, even though I am a half a world apart. And a man who loves me with all his heart and soul.... THAT'S the BEST one of them all!!!!!

Today we traveled by train (for the first time ever~) to Stuttgart, where our new baby was waiting to come home. I call her SIDA 2, because there was already a SIDA 1 and... well, because I can! :) Inside joke~
She is obsidian black with ash/ white leather interior. Smells like a dream and rides like its in the clouds. Or maybe that's just how I am feeling today was in the clouds. Complete heaven, I swear I saw God on that showroom floor! Ive never seen anything like it. 25 people on a bus, touring the actual plant that they are built at right here in Germany. VIP lunch to follow, complete with "white glove" treatment when they present you with the marvelous piece of machinery. Now THAT'S the way to feel when you purchase a car.

They line them up side by side and call your name. Present you with your keys, and walk you through all the options of your new car. I cried... I mean literally cried. I think the guy thought I was a bit nuts. But that's OK because today I could give a damn. Today my baby and I picked up my new car and she is amazing! I have never had anything so beautiful that I can call mine. Anything that is material that is. My hubby is beautiful, amazing, gorgeous and all those other great things... let's not forget that. And he married me!!!! Am I not the luckiest girl ever???!!!???

I thank you baby... for giving me a life I only dreamed of. For making every wish I ever have always come true. And, for choosing me... again and again and again. I am the luckiest woman ever! And I love you to pieces~

The Chritskindl Markets of Germany~

In Germany, Christmas time is HUGE! The people brave 25* temps., snow included, to walk the streets of countryside villages in search of that perfect Christmas item... or a warm glass of Gluhwein, a very warm, very potent Germany hot wine. They drink it like its koolaid, and is it ever yummy!!!
This weekend we ventured out to Nuremberg, Germany for one of the larger Markets. We met up with friends Wes and Gabby who happen to be friends of Erics from some 20 years ago! Wes and Eric were stationed here in Germany together way back when... found one another on facebook and was given the chance to hook up once again. They were wonderfully gracious hosts, and wow... can gabby cook! :)
We walked the cobblestone streets, drinking Gluhwein, eating bratwurst and listening to the music that filled the crisp air. It was wonderful!!!
And as the weekend came to a close, Eric and I headed home where we were greeted by the seasons first snow fall. The streets were pure white with tree lined roads dusted with white powder. Looks like it could be my first ever white Christmas!

A Home Coming~

After many weeks off, settling my own family into our new lives here in Germany... tonight the camera came out to work. Well, it didn't really feel like work, as I was honored to be in attendance at the Home Coming of the 8th Medical Logistics Battalion, and the 64th Veterinary Detachment.
It was amazing! At 11:45pm the air was crisp, with temperatures in the low 30's... but the moral and the enthusiasm was enormously high in the gymnasium on base as families filled the floor to welcome their loved ones home. I stood there in silence, as I imagined how I would feel if it were me. After a long 12 month separation from everything on this earth that I love... how would I be feeling. The tears came, as if I were a part of this big family that I don't even know. Children cheered, parents welled with pride, wives and husbands cried. I loved it!
I thank you Col. and Mrs. Jordan, for asking me to be here and for welcoming me with open arms to my new family and my new home. I will forever be grateful.

On this day of remembrance, as we are reminded of the sacrifices of those who have come before us, and those who serve now... this Veterans Day was a day off for my hubby, so we took the USO bus out of town to relax, and enjoy some much needed time together doing something fun. What could ever be more fun than shoes shopping while enjoying chocolate??? I think there should be a law against this much pleasure~

We headed out, 43 on the bus, to a little town called Pirmasens, where the WAWI Chocolate factory was awaiting our arrival. After a wonderful tour of the plant... we planted ourselves in a cafe chair and devoured liquor truffles and a smooth cappuccino. Can you say heaven! With a grand sugar high we all headed back on the bus to our next destination, the city of Hauenstein, where we toured the factory of Joseph Seibel... the European comfort shoe. Again, we chose to leave the nice cameras at home only to be extremely frustrated at all the great photo opportunities that we missed along the way. Note to self: No more cameras left on the table!!!

2 pairs of new shoes for Eric, none for me? Is that possible??? I never thought I would see the day surely. But I did find out about the Chuck Taylor Converse Foto tour hitting Hauenstein Nov. 21. Don't you know we will be here, Converse in hand (or should I say on toe) and camera in the other. Great fun!

A cafe lunch, more shopping and a short bus ride home... where we made new friends from, of all places, San Antonio (its crazy to travel half way around the world to run into a family that you probably lived right down the street from?) and savored more of our Amaretto, Tiramisu, and Cappuccino truffles-shaped like little cups! Yummy! No shoe picks, but I broke out the camera and shot a few of our sugar delights...

It's our Anniversary~

With 2 years worth of weddings under our belt, my husband and I are excited to be celebrating our own Anniversary.
3 years ago today, Eric and I said our vows in downtown San Antonio, Texas in a ceremony of just us two at the county courthouse. It was one of those military things... where you rush off to tie the knot because Uncle Sam has your butt in a sling waiting and wondering just how long you're going to have to pull a real wedding off. For me, at 40, it was not such a huge thing to have that gala affair. But now, after 44 weddings photographed, it seems like Eric and I robbed ourselves of that big bash. When friends and family come together to celebrate your new union.

As we plan an evening out for an intimate dinner with the play "The Full Monty" to follow, we talk of our plans for that event, here, in Europe. The church, the designer dress, the flowers from Holland, the food and the wine, in front of God... our friends and Lord willing, some family willing to make the trip, we hold fast to our dream of a that wedding after all come May 22, 2010 in Germany. My partner in crime, Mrs. Shelia Stone will serve as my best girl... and the oh-so-talented Clayton Austin will be capturing the event with his incredible vintage style photography. We are so thrilled!

Thank you Eric for being the man I waited 40 years for. For being that strength that never stops amazing me on a daily basis. For never giving up on me, on us... no matter what life (or the military) throws our way. For making all my dreams come true and for being a better man than I deserve. I love you, and I want the world to know it!

Shanon & Brant= Married~

It seems like forever since my last wedding, I know the waiting has been hard for my couple Shanon & Brant... but they are amazing in so many ways. They were my very last couple to be photographed in the states prior to my departure to Europe back in September, and they, as well as I, have been waiting for what has seemed like an eternity for my MAC to arrive and my editing to be underway.

Well, on Thursday it arrived. Safe and sound in its huge box packed tightly with more packing paper than imaginable. I have been sitting on pins and needles waiting to get their images off my flash cards and onto a disk so I can ship it back to the states for all to enjoy. As I go through the images I was reminded of why I loved shooting weddings so very much... all that love and raw emotion. All the build up to that very moment when two people say "I do". It still to this day gives me chills.

Thank you- thank you- thank you Shanon & Brant for your patience and friendship. It was a pleasure working with you and to be a part of such a special day... from your engagement shoot(s), to your big day, I've had a wonderful time.

Germany come fall~

The colors of fall... I have not seen the change of seasons in years. Here in Germany the view looks like a canvas painted with vibrant orange, red and yellow hues with only a touch of green showing through as the seasons change and the air grows colder with every passing day.
Each weekend Eric and myself make it a point to drive off to some distant village where we explore the countryside and look for another mom & pop eatery with authentic food from somewhere other than... well, Texas. We have dined on German (surely), and Romanian, Greek and Italian. This weekend we found a quaint little bistro just north of our village. Where the colors were vivid, the people were seasoned, and the food... amazing! We have surely put this one on our list of great places to dine.
On the way home I had Eric stop just off the road, onto a dirt path, where I spent some time admiring the rich colors of fall. Each day the leaves are growing in autum shades and I just had to capture some of that richness.
I'm really starting to love it here...

Halloween in Germany~

It was a "spooktacular" evening at Kelly and Orlandos house, as the group got together for a Halloween costume party. It was my chance to meet some new people and Erics night out...

We dressed in our finest Vampire costumes while others came as dirty grandpa and party going grandma, devil, little bo-peep, PBS painter Bob Ross, and masquerading couple a la' eyes wide shut. Oh, and dont forget dirty sanchez!!! It was so funny to see such originality and personality. Great food, with a theme, and 20g syringes filled as jello "shots" were the hit of the evening.

Our Germany Adventures~

After a long stretch apart, its great just to spend time together... doing anything! So Sat. was spent doing family stuff like groceries, car washing, dog washing, house cleaning, etc... But today we spent time looking at churches and visiting my first castle. The Nanstien, and it was beautiful! The most beautiful part to me was the view from the top... overlooking to town Landstuhl. And in the middle of the town was THE church!!! The church that I imagined when I chose the dress I will wear when Eric and I renew our vows in Europe. This event has been in the works ever since we knew we were coming here, spending 2 years watching other beautifully in love couples have the wedding of their dreams... the wedding Eric and I were never able to have. Be it timing, location, Gods will? We talked about a wedding, dreamed about a wedding, never did anything about it. Sure, we had a small silly thing just for some pictures on the wall. But never the event we truly wanted. We wanted guests, the gown and uniform, the whole bang... I guess God gives it to you when its his time? And in this case I agree!!! And lucky me, Mr. Clayton will becoming with Addison to capture it all as only he can, with amazing, vintage images.
Enough of that... dont want to bore you, but I could speak of it forever! So, this castle, built before Columbus even came to America. It gave me chills. The history I am surrounded by on a regular basis still just blows me away.
I'm still taking images with the play camera (still no UB as of yet) so the pictures are not what I know I can take... but its a taste of what its like here, I hope you enjoy~

Hubby on his way home!!!

Off to the field... those are the words my head was swimmimg with, what has seemed like forever ago. And it surely did seem like forever. I know its all part of his job, the field, TDY's, deployments (God forbid!). But it never gets any easier, and over here it seems like its even harder. But tonight he comes home!!!! Home to my arms that are begging to hold him for hours before I even let him get out of his uniform.

You see, its those silly-small things that I really miss when he is away for so long. Like, how he makes these funny little twitches when he sleeps. Or how he actually loves to cook for me... how he smiles at me when he thinks I need it most. And how he feels when nothing else will do but the simple touch of his hand on my face.

We have big plans for the weekend and I cant wait just to spend some quality time together. So hurry home to me baby... and get some sleep on that bus ride back, you're gonna need it! :)

Making new friends~

Today was a great day! I had my first visitor, and although she couldnt stay long, it was wonderful to meet Jonelle and enjoy her chocolate baking delights!!! Yummy! Chocolates and new friends always makes things better. This woman is the type of person I want to become friends with... happy, funny, children, grounded, and (lucky her) she has great hair. I must find out her secret. :)

Her husband, the chaplain, is out in the field with my husband. I guess that their conversations have led to my being here alone and having a tough go at it so far. So what does Jonelle do when she hears about this? She picks up the phone and calls me. Invites me to her home for conversation and much needed people-to-people time. Unfortunately that morning I awoke with what I thought was the start of the flu. Luckily, the next few days were much better and I was ready to make the attempt to get together again. Today, she shows up, kids in tow, and a big hug.

Thank you Jonelle for taking the time out of your busy day to make me smile. As soon as I get that car I want to come to see you as well. I want to take your children to the purple fields I have fallen in love with and let them dance in fluffy tulle tutus. Dance under the German sun while I snap away images of those beautifully blonde daughters. Then lets take some family pictures for your home. Its my way of giving back... My way of thanking you for taking that first step and reaching out to a lonely Army wife and making this day a whole lot better than the last.

Isnt it wonderful, the efforts people go to to help another human being. I hope she knows how special I already think she is, and I cant wait to know more about her and her family.

Off in the field~

Its been only three weeks so far since my arrival in Germany, and true to military form, my husband has already been called away for field duty. 10 days of boredom, 9 lonely nights. Its been rough being here without anything as of yet. UB should have came this week and as of today they still cannot locate anything. Im getting more than upset at this whole ordeal. I cant work yet, I cant finish the work I did just prior to leaving Texas. I have limited warm clothing and the temps. have finally hit a daily average of 32*. Thats no fun with t-shirts and jeans.

Stay positive-stay positive... the words I keep repeating to myself everyday as I sit on plastic furniture, care of the US Army. And sleep in a bed that is as cold and lonely as Ive ever felt. Ive been playing Girl Scout as I haul wood from out front driveway to the 3 deep pile Ive made in the backyard as we prepare for even colder weather. Now, if I could just get that fireplace working my aching back would be worth it.

Eric comes home soon and then I can sit with him and start to make plans. Plans for weekend outings and day off excursions. I know it will get better, like once the car arrives.

I want to thank all my clients who have kept in touch... taken a moment to say hello, and send well wishes. It surely has made things more pleasant.

I have my first shoot coming up in just a few weeks... I'm back in business!!!! Be on the lookout for more great images EUROPEAN STYLE!

Seven p.m. here in Landbsborn... the house is quiet. Dogs fed, tv off, laundry finished and I just had the best conversation with one of my closests friends Nancy. I am a new woman... yes, the re-creation has begun~

Ive been looking at this all wrong. I am not in a home that feels like a prison waiting for the warden to come home and spring me for the evening. I am in a castle, full of wonderful opportunities for new adventures and promise. I look out our windows and see these huge windmills and those silly hairy cows, I laugh. I wish nancy was here with me to see this wonder that she opened my eyes to tonight... I thank you Nancy for your pep talk and such wise words! You saved me, and I want you to know that. And I want you to know I love you for being that friend who always has the perfect thing to say.

Its been rough, becoming used to this new life that everyone keeps telling me I am so lucky to have. I surely had not been seeing it that way these last few days. Not until tonight, when someone took the time to talk me off the ledge and show me the sun again.

I have my map Nancy. I took a look at all the villages surrounding us and made my plans. I looked at the metro line and did the same. Tomorrow I am buying a pretty little journal and I am going to start to write. Blog, then put to pen my inner heart and feelings. That was a brilliant idea!!! God makes things happen just when they were meant to happen, and I am blessed to have you as my friend, and mentor. You couldnt have answered the phone at a more perfect time~

So, here's to a new day. The morning sun will bring a new beginning along with my new attitude. I can't thank you enough for your wise words, great advise and oh-so-fun way of looking at things. If I could put you in my pocket forever and carry you around with me I would!

Iphone pictures in Germany~

Eric and I spent the afternoon driving the villages of K-town, taking in all the sites. It was a beautiful afternoon, winding the countryside swooning over the pure spectical of it all. Grandure comes to mind when I see historical churches built in large red stone and mile high steeples. Trees so tall they bend inward towards the road, as you drive the curves I can look out the back window and see the fall leaves being kicked up... just like in a luxury car commercial. Its simply beautiful.
I only had the Iphone today for pictures, so I took ones of the village roads we live on. The mountians around us, and the big hairy cows I keep speaking of. This is breathtaking. NEVER in all my years did I think I could be given the experience to not only visit, but to live here. The culture, food, lifestyles. Im learning German, learning the driving street signs, learning how it all makes so much more sense in the states. Some signs are so confussing that I am quite certian that I will not pass the first test. But my new car is the motivation, because if I have no licence I get no car. :( And I REALLY want that Audi 2 seater convert. In white please~

So, here are some images off my phone to share with you. Dont judge, its the best I could get without my Nikon. That puppy is going out next week for a workout!!!

Arrival in Germany~

The ground is so cold, slight coolness in the air as well as we touched down just after 7am yesterday waiting for the bus back home. I have not seen so much green in years. Blue floral fields, stone churches with the largest steeples. I am going exploring this weekend for sure! It’s the holidays here... their reunification when the wall fell. So we were told of many a drunken party over the next few days. Lots of wine and beer that comes in steins that are the size of a small kitchen garbage can!!!!! Crazy!
The house is finally warm after an evening with no heat. And things are getting settled. I'll tell you though, I don’t know how these women do it who have children? All I have is two dogs and I could have torn my hair out at least 3 times. Everyone seems to be settling in just fine with no major issues as of yet.
I love our house... very European and chic, with 5 bedrooms so we are ready for some visitors... hint-hint.
This weekend, it’s looking at cars. I love that 2 seated convert. Volvo, but my eye caught a new two seated convert. Audi. Decisions-decisions~ Have to pass that damn driving test here first. And from what I understand it’s not too easy. We will see, study time starts tomorrow~

Midnight, the time turns one last click, and it's midnight. In 8 hours baggage will be here to pick up the first shipment of items... destination, Germany.

Today was spent taking down pictures, drapes, memories. Boxing up souvenirs from the last 4 years while trying real hard not to lose it. I mean, I must have spent the better half of the day choking back the emotions that I am trying so desperately to suppress. That can't be healthy... But the rooms look so sad. Naked. Cold.

I box up the MAC, my disks, my client files dated back 2 years. I can't believe its been 2 years since the launch of DB Images. Now, Dirty Blonde follows as we head to Europe. I have had some wonderful times, growing close to each and every client as I was honored to be asked to photograph some of the most important moments of their lives. I have brides from two years ago coming to me for maternity images. Others come for newborns. Some refer their friends and family for portraits or reunions. Then, there is always the weddings. Oh those weddings... my final comes this Friday as Shanon and Brant tie the knot out at Spring Hill.

My husband arrived home on Thursday and Ive had him working his little butt off ever since. Thank you baby for all your help. I can't believe we have only 9 days left. Now, I write my final blog post from San Antonio. The words won't come easily, my heart is heavy.

Here's to all my ladies and gents who helped make my world so incredible these last two years. Thank you for allowing me into your lives, and capturing all those memories. I am humbled by your belief in my work. Please stay in touch as I will do the same. Thank you to Shelia of Shelia Stone Photography for all your help as my right hand girl. I could never have done it without you. Your friendship means the world to me. Have a great time In Bahrain. And to Clayton... I remember that first day at Starbucks where we became friends. Now... Hubby is coming home~

I sit here and stare at the clock... tick-tick-tick. It seems to me that the past few months went by faster than these last few hours seem to be going. With less than 24 to go until my hubby comes back from Germany, I am beyond myslef. Our time apart was a HUGE growning experience. One that makes me appreciate all we have together even more-so than I ever have in the past. I love that he allowed me to fly for this time, and now, as promised... I am ready to come home. I am ready to be a full time wife again. I am ready to be a couple again. I am ready to be a family again.

I love this life we have made. I truly have the very best of all worlds. Even through all the crap, here we are. Stronger than ever and ready for this new chapter in our lives.

Thank you God, for allowing me more time. For not deploying him for the next year and for granting me this chance to re-group. God speed to those who are seving and thier families who hold it all together back home.

This time tomorrow I will be back in the arms of the man I love~

Meet the Potters~

One last wedding... I can't even image not having my brides anymore. I have the best brides ever! Mrs. Potter is no exception, looking fabulous last night in her white satin gown and crest white smile. The rains held just long enough for a beautiful ceremony at Pearl Stables, under semi cloudy skies and calm winds.

The new Mrs. Potter is the daughter of my hubby's former co-worker at Ft. Sam. She and her fiance came to me last April looking for their wedding photographer. I was blessed to shoot not only their wedding, but their engagement and Lindsays bridals as well. And we had a great time!

Lindsay and TJ are amazing together... all night I watched how they laughed and laughed. I actually don't see that all too often due to the stress of the day. Together, they are two peas in a pod, and I loved it! From their sand ceremony, to amazing teal up-lighting, to pictures on every table, a oh-so-fun photo booth, to the family heirloom display at the reception entry... every detail was considered.

Thank you Lindsay and TJ for a wonderful evening! It was a pleasure to be a part of. And thank you to Shelia, I can't believe this was our last wedding together. I am going to miss you like a sister! I have our images from last night taped to my computer... too much fun! I love you girl!!!

Counting days~

3969 hours apart, 452+ emails sent back and fourth, unknown number of tears that fell... seeing my soldier again, PRICELESS!!!! In one week Eric will be stepping off a US Airways plane and walking into my arms, where he hasn't been in 6 months. Its been a rough past 4 weeks for us. First I was on my way, then Eric was given word of a deployment... so we wait 9 days to find that they pulled someone else. Eric stays! So its back on again and I'm racing all over Ft. Sam trying to get things finished in 2 weeks that should take two months. I have 2 final wedding yet to shoot as well. Movers come on the 21, storage on the 28, a wedding on the 25, and closing on the house on the 29th... oh yes, and we leave on the 30th.

Its all happening so fast now. I feel like I don't have enough time to get everything finished. Dogs, cars, packing, editing, shooting (myself in the head! LOL!) I walked through our house with the new owners and listened as they discussed their plans for the rooms. I cried, its my house and I cant imagine anyone else here but my family. We have a lot of love wrapped up into this house. A lot of time and work and rewards. I will surely miss it!!!

So, as my blogging slacks due to added pressure, then slacks even further when my hubby arrives home. :) I want you to know that I really do appreciate all the emails and well wishes I have received. It will be tough to leave at the end of the month for sure!!!!!

Boudoir at the Valencia~

This afternoon and evening was spent taking images of beautiful women... dream job, I think so! It was off the the Hotel Valencia for an unbelievable Boudoir session with not one, not two, but three beautiful women, as Clayton and I were head over heals at the potential for a fabulous day!!!
I could keep talking about this all night, but it's 1am and I would rather just show them all off...

Hilary & William... one year later~

One thing that I will miss when I move will be the relationships I have made with all my great clients... One couple that I adore would have to be Hilary & William. I met the two of them right before their beautiful ceremony last year at the McNay Museum. Fountain side, with friends and family as witnesses, the two of them exchanged vows during an intimate ceremony followed by a small reception hosted by a close friends, including those via satellite over the Internet. It was one of my first, and still, one of my best times. I think the small ceremonies are so much more fun...

Today we all met up for an anniversary, of sorts... a portrait session to mark their big day. One year later. Pearl Brewery is the local of choice and dinner off S. Alamo was their treat at the sessions end. Didn't I tell you... fabulous people! We talked and talked, about the past year and year ahead. It was wonderful!

Thank you so much you two, I had a great time!!! Be sure to come see us when you come to Germany next year~

Meet the McKnights~

One of my last 3 weddings in the states, and it was held at the famous River Walk Marriage Island this evening under calm skies and light winds... and it was wonderful! I have such a personal attachment to my clients, and this couple was no exception. In fact, as Jennifer and I stood in her suite talking about the ceremony I welled up. Just after Matthew came to me bag in hand, Jeni was giggling "Go ahead Deb, open your gift!" My gift? Me... a gift? But its your day?
That's what kind of people Jennifer and Matt are. Beautiful, thankful, humble, kind, and amazing! In the box was an amazing bracelet with a camera charm!!! It was custom made just for me and it was incredible! I will cherish this forever... so thoughtful of you both. I love it!

Clayton joined me this wedding, playing with his new Mark II... I'm so jealous! :) So together we started snapping images of the bride preparing for her groom, as the groom grabbed a drink at the bar in the lobby of the Historic Mengar Hotel. Then we all waited, as Jen opened the patio door and walked up to an anxiously awaiting Matt. It was so wonderful to watch that first look. Matthew cried, I just love when they do that!

We all headed to Marriage Island where Rev. Henry Kahl performed the ceremony for the excited couple. Following the ceremony we took portraits of the bride and the groom then set them free to an evening at the Achiote Cafe' at the Hyatt.

Thank you for my beautiful bracelet! Thank you for allowing me the honor of being the one to capture this precious moment in your lives. It has been a pleasure! Oh, and I have to tell you that it takes one heck of a woman to climb a cement post in the middle of the street just for that "money shot", as Jen put it! You're the best girl!

4 Generations...

This evening was beautiful! A light breeze was in the air as my friend Tracy, baby Jack, Grandma and Great-Grandma all headed with me the fields behind our homes for a photo shoot with 4 generations. It was amazing to see and be a part of. This was the first time everyone was here to see baby Jackson... I on the other hand, have known Mr. Jackson since he was in his moms belly. He was beautiful then too!!!

Thank you for allowing me the honor of photographing 4 generations of family. What wonderful memories indeed. I will miss you so much Tracy, you have been a wonderful friend! Army wives ROCK!!!

Kitchen Wedding~

This evening Shelia and I traveled to Gonzales, Texas for the wedding of Sable and Matthew Kitchen. It was another extremely warm night, with temps. in the 100's again, but the bride and groom were as cool as could be. Exchanging vows at the United Methodist Church with a reception to follow, the bride wore a lace covered gown with a black sash, while her attendants wore all black. Beautiful red roses were everywhere, from her HUGE bouquet adorned with crystal accents, to the various centerpieces that filled the room... dont forget the alter filled with roses as well. Their black and white art deco cake was amazing. It too was stuffed with roses between each of its layers.

Shelia and I were done at 10pm, but we are quite sure the party went well into the night, with great music, lots of spirits, and a whole lot of fun! It was a beautiful night...

This evening Clayton and I once again met up with some of the folks from Redemption Garb Vintage Clothing for a follow up to our session last week... and even with a fabulous migraine, Clayton locking his keys in the car, and a location that was never seen, I have to admit that I am loving these images!

A Big Thank You~

Everyday I get to find beauty in everything around me... I always tell people that when they ask why I became a photographer. "It's the best job in the world!" Never said anything different!

And every once in awhile I am recognized for all that hard work... today was one of them.

I opened a package from a company that I advertise with, in the box was a beautiful thank you from the great folks at WeddingWire.com. Every bride who has a vendor on that site is given the chance to rate their vendors from 1 to 5. And, if so bold, to leave a comment as well.

I want to thank all my fabulous clients who, at one point or another, took the time to let others know just how great their experience with DB Images was. It has been my pleasure to have accompanied over 34 brides during their big day during my short 2 years here in Texas!!! That's a lot of happy couples! I am sad to be leaving all of you, missing out on more life changing events... but I will email all who write, and as per your requests, I will be diligent on my blog. Keeping everyone posted on our new life in Europe.

Thank you again to my brides and grooms, new mommies, new baby bumps, newly graduating seniors, family reunions, company events, charities I have been involved with, my sexy boudoir ladies, models, and anyone else that I have captured memories for. Its been a wonderful experience!

Meet little Jackson~

A few months back, my beautiful neighbor and friend Tracy, called me to take images of her and her baby bump! I was thrilled! Besides the fact that she is a fellow Army wife, friend, neighbor, sweetest person ever... she gets my jokes, and NO ONE ever gets my jokes! If she doesn't get them, then at least she is polite and giggles anyway, which makes her a really cool person in my book!

She was gorgeous in front of my lens, and my portrait business card has her images all over them... it was that great of a session. And now... her son Jackson is here!!! And he is as beautiful as his mommy... daddy too! :) So today I finally had the opportunity to take this little mans picture, we had a wonderful time!

Thank you once again Tracy & John for allowing me the honor of photographing two of the most important subject matters of your lives together. Here is to your new family!
I am going to miss you all so terribly. Please-please stay in touch and one day tell little Jackson how Aunt Debbie fell in love with him before he even arrived~

Double Take~

Shannon & Brant... a double take.

With only weeks to go, Shannon and Brant sat across the table from me at a fantastic dinner telling the story of how Brant proposed as Shannon became tear filled on more than one occasion.
Love, is it just not the best thing! Little hiccups here and there, like it is for any soon to be married couple... but I assured them that once Shannon walks around the corner and the two of them locked eyes, it was all going to just melt away and the only thing that will matter is the two of them, in that very moment.
OK, now I have the tears. I sure miss my hubby!

I want to thank you both once again for the wonderful dinner. Helping a lonely Army wife feel human once again. Oh, and for accommodating me on another shoot. Even if it was just for fun. :)

Fashion Shoot~

This afternoon I had the opportunity to be a second shooter for my friend Clayton for Redemption Garb Vintage Clothing store. This store is a fantastic array of vintage clothing, outrageous accessories, and the best people that one would ever want to meet!

So, I show up with Clayton and there they all are, 12 fabulous models all decked out. Hair and makeup to the nines and wardrobes chosen to their individual sense of styles. They looked amazing!

I have to admit, it was a lot of fun to not be the one in charge for a change. To sit back and shoot who and what I want without the stress that comes along with having to get it "just right".

Thanks Clayton, I had a great time! And a HUGE thanks to all who participated in our little production today... we hope you all had as much fun with us as we did with you!
